Here’s a painting I made for art class my senior year of college, based off of a picture from a three week course I did in Stellenbosch, South Africa, right outside of Cape Town. This picture is of a woman and a young boy walking in front of our tour bus in the Khayelitsha township in the Cape Flats. I wanted to show the irony of exoticizing this environment, vibrant and full of color to the eyes of some eager students - a township with a tour bus in it, for goodness sake - while the people that live in this township are invisible, represented by the white and black.
